Dhamma Ajant± (Dhamma in the area of the historical Ajanta Caves), located 30 kms from Ajanta Caves and 100 kms from Ellora Caves, serves the city of Aurangabad and is being planned after over a decade of Vipassana activity in the city. Dhamma Ajanta is the tenth of over 15 Vipassana centres in Maharashtra state in Western India, including Dhamma Giri in Igatpuri.

The first ten-day course in Aurangabad was organised in May 1995 in the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College, the campus of which has since served as a Vipassana centre. The local trust has been organising about six to ten 10-day courses every year. By 2005, approximately 5,000 male and female students have taken courses. One-day and children's courses are also being organised. Suitable land is being considered to establish a full-fledged Dhamma centre.
