Dhamma Khetta, meaning ‘Field of Dhamma’, is situated on 5.6 acres of land in
Sahabnagar, about 22 km from the cosmopolitan city of Hyderabad. Goenkaji
inaugurated the Centre in 1976 by planting a Bodhi sapling from Bodhgaya. This is the
very first Centre to be formally established. True to its name, Dhamma Khetta is lush and
green with dense foliage surrounding it. The climate is moderate in all seasons except
summer.

Presently, five Dhamma Halls serve tin conducting simultaneous courses. The main
Dhamma Hall accommodates over 200 students. The high shell roof helps create an
environment conducive to meditation. The Dhamma hall was scientifically designed,
factoring intricate details of muted light, maximum ventilation and insulation techniques.
Adjacent to the hall is a pagoda building with 72 cells in two concentric rings. 32 cells
were added in 2005. There is residential accommodation for 120 men and 90 women.

Besides regular ten-day courses and long courses, Dhamma Khetta has full facilities for
self-courses and every Sunday transport is arranged for local meditators to come to group
sittings and for a one-day course. Workshops such as the ‘Value Inculcation through
Vipassana’ for school and college teachers are also held.
