PALI STUDY PROGRAMME |
The Vipassana Research Institute offers the following four residential courses for those interested in studying Pali.
1. Basic Pali - English Study Programme
Course duration is 8 months and the next course will commence in April 2008.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements for admission
- They must have completed five ten day Vipassana courses and one Satipatthana course, should be observing the five precepts and practising Vipassana regularly since two years.
- They should have a good working knowledge of English.
- Applicants will be required to attend all class and meditation periods, serve at the centre and follow the discipline at the centre. Therefore applicants should be prepared in advance to work hard to meet all these requirements.
The progress of the students will be reviewed periodically. Students intending to join the course are required to fill in the application form for basic course and mail it to the following e-mail address by March 2008.

2. Advanced Pali- English Study Programme
Note: Only those who are serious to pursue pali intensively need apply for this course
Apart from the Basic course, an Advanced 8 -month Pali course (in English) is offered to students who have completed a basic course. For this course, students will be selected after giving an entrance test. If not found suitable, they may join the basic course.
The period is the same as in the basic course. However if found eligible by the Centre and VRI and if a student wishes to continue for the second year, he may continue. Students will be taught steps to do research in the second year.

3. Basic Pali - Hindi Study Programme
4. Advanced Pali - Hindi Study Programme
This course is for one month duration only. Criteria is same as for the English courses and forms are also the same. Please mention Pali Hindi course at the top of the form. The teaching medium will be Hindi. A good working knowledge of Hindi is essential for this course.
Separate accommodations are generally provided for the students. These courses are offered on a Dana basis. There are no fixed charges for tuition, accommodation etc. Participants may make donation for the benefit of others.
